An evaluation looks beyond a checklist
Trouble concentrating can have more than one explanation. ADHD assessment considers the pattern over time, impact in different settings, and other possible contributors. Online quizzes and social-media examples cannot establish a diagnosis.
For adults, childhood history is part of the assessment. Previous records or observations from people who know you may be useful when available and appropriate. You can still ask how to begin if you do not have old school or treatment records.
What to bring to the conversation
- Examples of difficulties at work, school, home, or in relationships.
- What you remember about when the difficulties began.
- Previous evaluations or treatment records you already have.
- Your medication list and information about sleep, mood, and health history.
